The International Symposium on Concrete Roads was first organised in Paris in 1969 under the auspices of Cement Europe (formerly CEMBUREAU), the European Cement Association. Since its inception, the Symposium has been held every four years, becoming a key international forum for concrete pavement professionals.
Subsequent editions took place in: Bern, Switzerland (1973); Besançon, France (1978); London, United Kingdom (1982); Aachen, Germany (1986); Madrid, Spain (1990); Vienna, Austria (1994); Lisbon, Portugal (1998); Istanbul, Türkiye (2004); and Brussels, Belgium (2006).
In 2008, CEMBUREAU transferred the patronage of the Symposium to EUPAVE, the European Concrete Paving Association. Under EUPAVE’s leadership, the event has continued to grow, with editions held in Seville, Spain (2010); Prague, Czech Republic (2014); Berlin, Germany (2018); and Krakow, Poland (2023). From the very beginning, the World Road Association (PIARC) has supported the Symposium. Since 2010, close collaboration has also been established with the International Society for Concrete Pavements (ISCP) and the Australian Society for Concrete Pavements (ASCP), further strengthening the event’s global reach.
The Symposium’s mission has consistently been to advance and promote concrete pavement technologies at an international level. Over more than five decades, it has proven to be a highly successful platform for knowledge exchange and innovation, while also fostering a strong worldwide network of experts from road administrations, research institutions, design offices, contractors, suppliers, and industry stakeholder.
